Episode #100 - Breakout

(66 downloads)

Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...

This week, it’s a soulful jam for you that starts off with a breakbeat classic by Joe Williams, followed by a funky track by Ray Charles (!) and a sweet rare groover from Zulema. From there, you’ll hear a fantastic soulful Brazilian tune by the legendary Arthur Verocai, which trails off into a funky house party track from Arnie Love.

We keep the tempo going with Sons of Kingdom, which was re-edited nicely by 7 Samurai on the G.A.M.M. label about a year ago—the original is ace.
After that, it’s an edit of one of my all time favourites, followed by a nice latin-tinged broken beat stormer from Yosaku that hasn’t yet been released.
Then it’s onto more latin beats, this time it’s some brand new stuff from France’s breaks cutter, Cleon, which I played a few weeks back on another episode.

From there, we go back into time for a couple of deadly rare grooves, then finish up with a cut up from Mr. Konfuze.

Enjoy!

Episode #099 - Bunch Of Keys

(59 downloads)

Download this mix (30 min)
So...

If you've been listening to this podcast for a while, you'll know that it was offline for a major server upgrade. In the transition, many episodes got lost, and the few episodes that are on the site are not in chronological order.

That said, I DO have every single episode backed up on a disc and will endeavour to put them all back up over time, so please bear with me.

And now, picking up where we left off...

Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...

This week, we get into all kinds of sounds: New. Old. Jazzy. Funky.

First off, some hard and dusty jazz from Vertice, some brand new hiphop breaks, and some sweet sounds from Nick Van Gelder. After that, it's some hiphop from Ryan Leslie, quirky breaks from Tom Central, and some brand new music from Mr. Scruff.

Up next, a classic gem from Jean Jacques Perrey, followed by a recently released killer funky soul blender (Thanks Richie!), then a marvelous R & B track that may be the best thing I've heard all year.

We finish up with a track sampled for Erykah Badu's "Honey", and a great soulful disco track from King Tutt.

Enjoy!

My Profile

Driftwood

I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them. My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.

You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.

Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.

For your requests, questions, or just to get in touch, email: soundingoutthecity@hotmail.com
Cheers.
