Sounding Out The City
Where the sounds are "light on the attitude, heavy on the beat." You'll hear rare grooves, hard jazz, heavy funk, broken beats, library grooves, house, deep soul, Latin flavours, Brazilian vibes, left-field hiphop, rock, drum n bass, afro-beats--all these sounds and more, hand picked and blended fresh into 30-minute mixes, Wednesdays at noon.

Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...
On this week’s podcast: ambience, downtempo, re-edits, soul, afrobeat, hiphop
We start out with some spacey ambience from Dwilt Sharpp and Gaslamp Killer before picking it up a bit with Projection Orange and a sweet edit of a Diana Ross track.
We then get into another edit, this time it's an interesting take on a Rye Rye/M.I.A. collabo. After that, we go back into the past with a killer soul track from The Impalas, which sets up another killer...forthcoming music from the amazing Fredericks Brown with a track called "Betrayal" that fuses broken-afro beats with proper soulful R & B. Sweet sound!
After that, Featurecast takes an 80s dance classic and tweaks it for today's floors; then it's a monster TM Juke disco edit of Lillian Alexander's version of "Love For Sale"...deadly! We finish up with a Donald Byrd classic, a crazy left-field hiphop track by the mighty Mos Def, and then some sweet beats from Bibio.
Enjoy!

I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them.
My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.
You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.
Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.
