Sounding Out The City
Where the sounds are "light on the attitude, heavy on the beat." You'll hear rare grooves, hard jazz, heavy funk, broken beats, library grooves, house, deep soul, Latin flavours, Brazilian vibes, left-field hiphop, rock, drum n bass, afro-beats--all these sounds and more, hand picked and blended fresh into 30-minute mixes, Wednesdays at noon.

Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...
This week, I play a few tracks that deserved more attention than they got when they first came out. But first, I start off with a French library lounger and follow up with some new stuff from deep house legend, Moodymann.
After that, it’s Canadian hiphop off Moonstarr’s Public Transit Recordings label. Then, it’s onto more hiphop, this time from the amazing Sputnik Brown crew featuring New York’s next big thing Oxygen holding down the lyrics. These dudes are the real deal and will be blowing up real soon. Go check out their MySpace page to hear what good hiphop sounds like.
We then shift into some spacey instrumental stuff with a nice collabo between Sam Irl and Dorian Concept, followed by fantastic heavy funk from The Grits, and some latin-tinged hiphop from 7 Samurai. After that, it’s 2 more tracks that deserved more shine in 2008-Brittany Bosco’s indie cut “8-Track” and Cutty Lark’s “Get Caught” off the Do Right! label.
The mix comes to a close with a very rare jazz groove from People, and ends with what is perhaps my favourite house music track of all time—the legendary “New Jersey Deep”.
Enjoy!

My Profile
Driftwood
I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them.
My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.
You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.
Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.
