Sounding Out The City
Where the sounds are "light on the attitude, heavy on the beat." You'll hear rare grooves, hard jazz, heavy funk, broken beats, library grooves, house, deep soul, Latin flavours, Brazilian vibes, left-field hiphop, rock, drum n bass, afro-beats--all these sounds and more, hand picked and blended fresh into 30-minute mixes, Wednesdays at noon.

Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...
On this week’s podcast: rare grooves, reggae, re-edits, 50s R&B, broken beats
We start out with a fairly new (2007-2008) ambient breaks track from the Landau Orchestra and an old and rare ambient track (1970) from the Toomorrow (sic) original soundtrack. Then it’s onto some hard beat downtempo courtesy of California’s DJ Day, followed by some beautiful and breezy sounds from Sweden’s 1970s cover band extraordinaire, “The Gimmicks”.
After that, we shift into some a re-edit of some dubby business from The Specials, and a rare funk tune from Steady Wailin’ Sid called “Spirit of ‘76”.
A brand new R&B track from newcomer Brittany Bosco is next, which deftly samples a nice Chakachas track. We then turn to some old R&B from the 50s, which must have been a big party track in the day and would do well even today.
We then get into some reggae from Leroy Sibbles before getting wild with the percussion in tracks from drummer Malcolm Catto, and a brand new one from Canada’s broken beat legend, Moonstarr.
Enjoy!

I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them.
My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.
You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.
Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.
