Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...
This week’s selections: Jazz, Library, Rare Groove, Hiphop, Disco, Broken Beat
We get going with a classic jazzbreak from Ray Bryant, which sets up 5 library grooves that have been (or should be) sampled for hiphop tracks. Then we get a bit of rare groove from Playschool’s “Bang On A Drum”, followed by a monster Brazilian track with massive percussion on it called “Pra Swingar”
Next, it’s hard disco off Kon & Amir’s latest “Off Track” comp, followed by a funky big band track by the legendary Buddy Rich, then some new music from the amazing Mr. Scruff. After that, it’s US hiphop paired with Japanese production from ShinSight Trio.
We close out with a live MPC performance by Jeremy Ellis (AKA Ayro) from a very recent “Do Over” party in LA, and end off on The Spirit Of Atlanta’s classic “Messin’ Around”
Enjoy!

My Profile
Driftwood
I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them.
My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.
You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.
Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.
