Sounding Out The City
Where the sounds are "light on the attitude, heavy on the beat." You'll hear rare grooves, hard jazz, heavy funk, broken beats, library grooves, house, deep soul, Latin flavours, Brazilian vibes, left-field hiphop, rock, drum n bass, afro-beats--all these sounds and more, hand picked and blended fresh into 30-minute mixes, Wednesdays at noon.

Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...
We start off with some cinematic sounds from Sonar Kollektiv, then a soulful bit from Jamie Lidell--no relation to Chuck, I’m sure. Then we get an unreleased goody from Graham Mushnik (scored from his flat mate and label mate via the web) before moving onto a latin rare-groover by Black Sugar.
We keep on with the rare grooves from Ellipsis (re-issued by Jazzman Records), Newban (needs to be re-issued), Makonde Soseme (off a Kon & Amir comp) and Ray & His Court.
Yosaku comes in next with an unreleased twisted Latin treat before a Rick James re-edit is heard. Next is some rare Afro business, followed by a rare version of a 90s house classic, and then some rock from the Tremeloes.
It all comes to a wrap with A-ko’s amazing 2005 (I think) release on MPM records called “Chessha 23”, which is a psychedelic hiphop trip, and then a very recent release from Graham Mushnik on Catapulte records www.catapulterecords.com.
Enjoy!

I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them.
My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.
You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.
Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.
