Episode #059 - Pave The Way

(118 downloads)

Download this mix (30 min)
Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...

We start off with some ambient hiphop breaks from a strange outfit called “She’s Dead” and follow up with Toronto’s Jesse Futerman before we get into a mashup that blends 2 of my favourite tracks. After that, we hear something from the Nutsons (I love their style) and DJ Shadow.

After that, we hear a track that was submitted by a man called Jendor who waxes nostalgic with lyrics about hiphop’s golden era—name-dropping all the greats: from Kool DJ Herc to Biggie to Naz. Then it’s onto some tight jazzy hiphop loops from Bulljun, some drum n bass action from Mudfoot Jones, and a bossa jazzdance classic by Willis Jackson.

We then get into another mashup, this time it’s a Lil Mama track layered over “Tequila”. Then it’s a dubby Brazilian drum ‘n bass track by Dubben that sets up a pair of classic Brazilian fusion gems.

It all comes to a wrap with a remix of Tal M Klein’s latest cut, and finally, a little something out of the Melting Pot camp by a group called Koliphones.

Enjoy!

My Profile

Driftwood

I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them. My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.

You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.

Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.

For your requests, questions, or just to get in touch, email: soundingoutthecity@hotmail.com
Cheers.
