Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...
This week’s mix gets started off with some deep, ambient, cinematic sounds from Italy (Piero Piccioni), the U.S. (Al Hirt), the U.K. (Roger Webb) and Germany (the Vampires). Then the 5th track is a sick violin and drum break workout that I suspect is from France—it’s an absolute killer!
Stark Reality is next with a mind-melter called “Dreams”. It’s rock. It’s jazz. It has a deep groove, wicked bass, and heavy drum breaks. It’s an amazing track that would appeal to open-minded rock lovers, B-boys, and jazz aficionados…it’s just wicked. After that, you’ll hear something by Free Design remixed by hiphop god Madlib, which is then followed by some heavy nujazz, then an old school hiphop classic by A Tribe Called Quest.
Next is a cut ‘n’ paste break from Greece by a b-boy named Thanos from the Palov & Mishkin camp, then some really nice but obscure soul by Delia Gartrell, and some funkrock from Crystal Mansion. The Jazzinvaders are heard after that, and then a couple of nu-latin breaks that will appeal to lovers of the “Los Hermanos Latinos” sound. It all comes to a wrap with a track that slipped under the radar in 2007 called “Fairchild” by the Scottish dub and breaks maestro, Pablo, of Redhook records.
Enjoy!

I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them.
My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.
You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.
Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.
