Episode #049 - Spacing Out

Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...

This week’s mix gets started off with a NEW Sounding Out The City intro. I felt it was time to change it up, and I hope you all enjoy it. After the intro, I get into a nice library track by Keith Mansfield from the KPM 1068 sound book called “Gold Medal” and transition to a tune by Jonny Trunk (a mad library collector who put out a book on the genre).

A re-edit of the Free Design’s rendition of the Door’s classic “Light My Fire” comes next, then it’s off to Mars with a sick, fuzzy funk track by the Invaders, and Sheeba’s funky version of “Jungle Fever”. We hear a bit of Brazilian heat from Trio Mocoto before getting into some beat-heavy and bizarre electro-synth disco (?!), then Kid Kanevil’s “Ill Connoisseur” gets thrown in.

After that, I get into some disco with Two Man Sound, followed by Stringfield Family’s “Sound of Disco Rock”, then a B’more-ish joint that tears up a James Brown classic before getting into one of my favourites from Beck. The mix ends off on a house music classic by Steve Poindexter, and finally, Joe Bataan’s amazing “Latin Strut”

Enjoy!

Driftwood

I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them. My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.

You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.

Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.

For your requests, questions, or just to get in touch, email: soundingoutthecity@hotmail.com
Cheers.
