Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City…
This week’s mix starts off with one of my favourite library tracks by Guy Boyer, although I suspect it is a slight re-edit (as is done on the Dusty Fingers comps) of his “Bongos and Sound” on the French Neuilly label.
Next up is maybe my favourite jazz track of all time, “Nightingale”. It’s a true stormer, a jazzdance classic, and jazz heads know it quite well. You seriously need to hear it if you haven't...it's THAT good.
After that, I dropped a track by a German punk band (yes, punk) called the Beatsteaks. Don’t let the description fool you: it is soulful and somewhat “pop-like” (poppy? pop-ish??) and you would never suspect they were German as they sound American, or possibly British on this track.
Then Mark Ronson is up with a dope mini-mix of tunes from his 2007 album “Version”, which is real dope btw. Then I blend some Brazilian bizniz into the mix with a few Black Betty club faves before DJ Spinna brings the B-boy flave (circa 1999) to set up Cut Chemist’s minty remix of an old Tito Puente track.
After that, we hear a lil DJ Mink (circa 1997) before some really good nujazz from the Auratones sets up a wicked and soulful boogie joint by Malone and Barnes.
It all comes to a wrap with sample-fodder produced by rock band “Chicago” back in 1979 and used by “The Bucketheads” (AKA MAW, AKA Kenny Dope & Louie Vega) for their amazing 1995 house classic “The Bomb (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)”
Enjoy!

I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them.
My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.
You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.
Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.
