Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...
This week, we get you up and out of your seat with some party music all the way through, starting with a re-edit of an underground club classic by the Rhythm Makers.
Then we get into some disco-reggae--at least that's what it sounds like to me--and follow up with some David Holmes soundtrack ish before getting dirty with Francis Lai and Crystal Mansion. Big big tunes!
The next 4 or so tracks are all bangers of the funk and soul variety. I don't know why I didn't play these out sooner in earlier episodes. But I digress...
We then get into some new stuff by Budos Band and an alternative hiphop joint by Smoove before Asayake drop a beat-heavy jazzyloop, and David Holmes returns for another dope soundtrack jaunt, as Rube closes it out with a wicked jazzed out party tune.

Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...
This week, we start things off with a deep Afrobeat track with a hiphop sensibility from the mighty Budos Band off their new LP on the Daptone label. A Nico Gomez latin classic with a touch of psyche is next, followed by a familiar dubby loop, and Madlib's bollywood inspired hiphop instro.
We then get into a wicked bluesy R&B/soul funk nugget by John Fitch, a Sharon Jones deep funk headnodder, followed by a Syl Johnson goody before we dip into some old school hiphop with a twist.
Kid Gusto and Dusty Springfield set up what is (for me) a big tune called "Valerie" by Mark Ronson, featuring Amy Winehouse's signature voice. Then we get into a wicked and slightly dubby funk re-edit by the Barrio Katz. Essential stuff!
We close it out with a legendary accoustic guitar and breaks classic by Hard Meat, then one of my all time faves by Bill Withers before Cookie Woodson draws things to an end with a sweet soul track called "I'll Be True". The summer is definitely here Folks.

Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...
This week's mix starts off with a psychedelic folk excursion by Nancy Priddy, followed by a clavinet and percussion heavy afro groover by Ramsey Lewis, and a soulful jazz funk lounger aptly named "Right On".
We then get into a deadly Gary Davis disco jazz instrumental called "Gee Dee" before Swell Session and Mr. Scruff bring some proper house music with "No No".
Minus 8 comes in next with a nice jazzy breaks lounger before Mark Ronson heats things up with a haunting version of "Valerie" sung by Amy Winehouse.
Pablo follows up with one of my all time faves in "Super Sweet" while Small World brings a quirky sample-heavy R&B track.
Library heavyweights Alan Parker and Alan Hawkshaw come together for a groovy jazz rocker called "Hot Pants" before we shift to an excellent cut-and-pastejazz loop called"Jazzhole" by the oddly named California based Free The Robots.
Panacea brings some dope left-field hiphop with "Starlite" from their "Ink Is My Drink" album, and the mix ends with a DJ Shadow tune called "The 6 Day War" that came out a few years back, but seems to fit with the times, as not much has changed since...

My Profile
Driftwood
I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them.
My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.
You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.
Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.
