Episode #012 - The Best Is Yet To Come

(108 downloads)

Download this mix (30 min)
This mix starts off with an electro-ambient jazz waltz from Alex Attias, and some mad organ fused jazz funk from the mighty Ronnie Foster.

Things start to heat up with a couple of hiphop instros courtesy of Lil' Dap, Madliband RJD2 before going back into time for some psychedelic jazz by Karin Krog and library illness by James Clarke.

After that, it's party time with the Tiki Two, Outbreak, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and others, finally ending with a jazzy Afro-disco gem from Peter King and some library disco from the famed Chappell label.

Episode #011 - I Know You Got Soul

(118 downloads)

Download this mix (30 min)
Welcome to the all funk edition of Sounding Out The City...

This week features some of my alltime favourite tracks, and a few that I haven't played in a long time.

All of these tunes are massive funk jams that have rocked many a dancefloor throughout the ages, and continues to at finer parties today like "The Rub" in Brooklyn, or "Footprints" in Toronto.

Enjoy!

Episode #009 - Radios Start Rockin

(103 downloads)

Download this mix (30 min)
Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...

Starting you off this week with some downtempo beats, this mix heats up with some headnodding breaks then comes to a boil with a couple of mad drum 'n bass tracks followed by some Latin heat.

Throw some Spank Rock action into the mix, a dash of broken beats and library, and finish up with some 60s Italian freak beat courtesy of Ennio Morricone.

Definitely an open format mix for the open-minded music lover, so I'm sure you'll find something you like.

My Profile

Driftwood

I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them. My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.

You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.

Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.

For your requests, questions, or just to get in touch, email: soundingoutthecity@hotmail.com
Cheers.
