Sounding Out The City
Where the sounds are "light on the attitude, heavy on the beat." You'll hear rare grooves, hard jazz, heavy funk, broken beats, library grooves, house, deep soul, Latin flavours, Brazilian vibes, left-field hiphop, rock, drum n bass, afro-beats--all these sounds and more, hand picked and blended fresh into 30-minute mixes, Wednesdays at noon.

Welcome to another episode of Sounding Out The City...
This week's mix starts off with a jazzy broken beat from the mighty Domu (thanks Richie!), then goes into two of my favourite modal jazz tracks of all time--"Backwoods Echo" and "El Marques".
The next track was copped from Dan Zack's excellent compilation of Cuban music called "Si Para Usted". Pick it up from finer music shops in your area.
After a brief jaunt in rare groove territory, we jump into a sitar-breaks classic followed by a dope hiphop mashup and Beck's headnodder "Nausea".
We then shift into some funk rock with a couple of classics by Ballin' Jack and Steve Winwood, followed by some latin boogaloo and a killer soulful nugget called "Romantic Attitude".
The mix closes out with a haunting track heavily sample by the Verve for "Bittersweet Symphony" and a mellow lounger by Boogaloo and Lotari.

Big shout outs to Richie in the UK for sorting out the Domu and Pharoah Monch tracks for me, and to Dan Zacks for his killer comp and interesting radio show called "Waxing Deep".
'Til next week, peace and best wishes.

I started out making mixes for myself to listen to during drives and subway rides. Somewhere along the way, I thought other people might enjoy the music in the mixes as much as I do, so I began posting them.
My wish is simply to share what I consider to be really good yet seldom heard music with others.
You'll hear 30 minute mixes that incorporate rare grooves from the past along with the modern sounds of today, and a dash of various flavours--from latin jazz, to disco, to classic rock, to sample-based beat oriented styles and beyond.
Please leave a comment if you like what you are hearing and share this podcast with others.
